Ramapo Ceremony Honors Police Work, Marks Promotions, Retirements RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police honored their own at a recent breakfast event. More than 30 awards were presented to members of the department Tuesday. The categories were, police said: Lifesaving, Meritorious 2nd, Excellent Police Service and Honorable Service. The department also acknowledged the promotions of Sgt. Chris Youngman and St. Mike Gannon. The retirements of police officers Al Luba and Terry Curley were also marked at the ceremonies.

Westport Man Charged With Punching Sleeping Sibling WESTPORT, CONN. -- A Westport man has been charged with punching his sibling, police said Friday. Eric Peeler, 25, of Post Road East, was accused by police of hitting the sibling while he or she was asleep. The attack, police said, appeared to be unprovoked. Peeler has been charged with third-degree assault and risk of injury to a child, police said. He was held on a $10,000 bond. Peeler had a scheduled court date Monday, May 16, but it was not known what the outcome of that was or whether he made bail. It was also not known if the sibling was badly injured in the alleged attack.

Two Narrowly Escape Injury As Amtrak Train Hits Car In Hyde Park HYDE PARK, N.Y. – Two people narrowly escaped injury Friday after they fled their car moments before it was hit by an Amtrak train in Hyde Park, local emergency officials said. According to the Fairview Fire District, the collision occurred around 9:30 a.m. near the town’s River Point Road. The car’s occupants had safely exited the vehicle before the train turned it into a twisted heap of metal, fire officials said.
