Somers Take-Back Campaign Yields 150 Pounds Of Prescription Drugs
SOMERS, N.Y. -- Scores of Somers residents, responding to a call to remove danger from their medicine cabinets, have turned over 150 pounds of old and unused medications, according to state Sen. Terrence Murphy, R-Yorktown.
The prescription medications were collected at the Somers Town House during a “Shed the Meds” event in June and taken away for safe disposal at a county facility, Murphy said.

Bear Spotted Wandering Around Weston, Animal Control Officer Says
WESTON, CONN. -- Bear sightings have been reported from all corners of Weston, Mark Harper, the town’s animal control officer, said on Friday.
A similarly wayward bruin was spied in Fairfield last week. Eventually treed, it was tranquilized and carted off.
Even though Weston’s bear appears to be scared of people and pets and retreats to the woods when spotted, it should never be confronted or approached, Harper said.

$25M State Bailout, Other Measures Made To Close Yonkers Schools Budget Gap
YONKERS, N.Y. – The state Legislature has come to the rescue of the troubled Yonkers school district with a $25 million plug for its projected budget gap, according to state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
The additional money will help Yonkers schools avoid layoffs and program cuts, Stewart-Cousin said in a press release.
