Beacon Schools Superintendent Walkley Resigns
BEACON, N.Y. -- Barbara Walkley has resigned, just one month shy of her one-year tenure as superintendent of Beacon schools, according to a report by twcnews.com.
Walkley, who had been made interim chief after Paul Dorward suddenly resigned as superintendent in 2014, had been hired on a permanent basis in February 2015, according to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal.
Walkley, who made $177,000 a year, resigned in the wake of allegations made by a small group of residents and will receive a buyout, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

Former Newburgh Fire Chief Indicted In Pension Fraud Case
NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- A former Newburgh fire chief, charged with swindling $95,000 in pension funds, has been indicted on fraud charges, according to Preet Bharara, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Michael J. Vatter, 57, of Wallkill, resigned this week in the wake of the charges, according to a report by News12.
Vatter had retired from the Newburgh Fire Department in 2000 but returned in 2009 and didn’t report his re-employment to the state, Bharara said in the indictment.

Brewster Man Stopped For Equipment Violation Charged With DWI
SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- A Brewster man faces charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after he was pulled over for an equipment violation, state police said.Byron H. Brewer, 41, was stopped on Old Doansburg Road on Monday and arrested after the trooper found him to be intoxicated, police said.
Police said Brewer provided a breath sample that revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.20 percent, which is more than two times the legal limit.
He was ticketed and ordered to appear in Southeast Town Court on Tuesday, Feb. 23, police said.
