Nearly 4,550 victims have collectively paid more than $23 million as a result of the scams. Swain, 80, of Poughkeepsie, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, police said. School officials, after reviewing security tapes from the alleged incident on Thursday, Jan. 21, notified state police. DUI Suspect Tried To Take Monroe Officer's Weapon, Police Say MONROE, Conn. -- A Newtown driver pulled over by police after nearly causing a crash on Route 25 in Monroe tussled with the arresting officer and now faces several charges, according to the Monroe Courier. Dennis Shanchuk, 73, who was arrested on Friday, Jan. 15, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and with interfering with an officer, among other things, the Monroe Courier said.
