Rockland Woman Tells Police She Was Victim Of IRS Scam
SUFFERN, N.Y. – A Suffern resident refused to fall for an apparent scammer, police said.
The woman told police that she had received a phone call early Wednesday, Jan. 27, from someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.
The caller, who the woman said had an “Indian accent,” told her she had tax evasion warrants on her and that her taxes had been audited for five years, police said.
The caller further threatened the woman, she reported, with arrest if she didn’t fork over $6,000 immediately.

Five Face Assault Charges After Fight In Yorktown Leaves One Person Injured
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Three Mahopac men and two teenagers are facing assault charges in connection with a fight that left the victim with cuts, bruises and an eye injury, police said.
According to Yorktown police, who made the arrests with the help of Carmel authorities, the suspects are: Louis J. Prokos, 24; Blaid M. Terhune, 22; Michael W. Guidice, 19; and a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, whose names were being withheld because of their age.

Police Charge Poughkeepsie Caretaker With Endangering Disabled Girl
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie caretaker has been charged with putting her hand around the throat of a disabled girl, police said.
Victoria M. Garrand, 34, was arrested in Millbrook on Saturday and charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a Class E felony, police said.
State police were assisted by Millbrook police during the arrest, they said.
Garrand was taking care of a 12-year-old mentally disabled girl on Friday, Jan. 1, when the incident occurred, police said.

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – An investigation into a home improvement grant given to Peekskill’s deputy mayor, Drew Claxton, and her son, spurred a heated argument between two city residents this week that was videotaped by LoHud.
While the Common Council met in executive session Monday, Leesther Brown, former chairwoman of the city’s housing board, and Ted Bitter, Claxton’s boyfriend and owner of the BeanRunner Cafe, went toe to toe at City Hall over what Brown alleged was a conflict of interest, according to LoHud.
