4 Cases Of Potentially Fatal Powassan Virus Reported In CT Four Connecticut residents have tested positive for the Powassan virus infection, the first to be detected in the state this year. The virus is a sometimes fatal tick-borne infection that attacks a person's central nervous system, said officials with the Connecticut of Public Health (DPH). DPH officials said on Monday, Aug. 21 that two men aged 60 years and older, residents of Middlesex County and Litchfield County, became ill during early July. Norwalk Woman Driving Wrong Way On I-95 Charged With DUI A 34-year-old Connecticut woman was busted for allegedly driving under the influence after she was stopped driving in the wrong direction on I-95. Fairfield County resident Kelsey McManus, of Norwalk, was charged around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20 in New Haven County in Milford, said the Connecticut State Police. Hudson Valley Disturbance Ends With Stabbing, 2 Hit By Car, Numerous Assaults, Police Say One man is in critical condition and others were injured during a disturbance in the Hudson Valley. The incident took place in Dutchess County around 3:10 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 20, in the city of Poughkeepsie. According to Det. Lt. Lawn Mower Accident Leads To Dramatic High-Angle Rescue In Hudson Valley A Hudson Valley man was rescued by firefighters and EMS after he rolled his lawn mower down a steep embankment. The incident took place in Dutchess County around 4:20 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18 in the town of Poughkeepsie. Hudson Valley Man Shot After Threatening Officers With Semi-Automatic Handgun, Police Say A man who pulled a Keltec 9mm semi-automatic handgun out of his pocket and threatened police was shot by an officer in the Hudson Valley. Shelton Man Nabbed For Masturbating In Front Of Mother, 5-Year-Old, Police Say A Fairfield County man was charged with public indecency after allegedly masturbating on a nature trail in front of a woman and her son. Fairfield Woman, 44, Killed In I-95 Westport Crash A Fairfield County woman was killed after allegedly running into the back of a tanker on I-95 that was stopped for backed-up traffic. Julia Delva Clarke, age 44, of Fairfield, was killed around 12:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 21, in Westport, said the Connecticut State Police. A preliminary investigation found that Clarke was traveling north in the right lane in a 2019 Porsche Macan when she ran into the back of a Freightliner Cascadia which was towing a Kenworth tanker, state police said. Man, Woman Burned In Campbell Hall House Fire Airlifted To Hospital A man and a woman were seriously burned during a raging fire at their Hudson Valley home. The blaze broke out in Orange County around 4:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 21, on Overlook Drive in Campbell Hall. Underage Liquor Sales Check Leads To Pair Of Arrests On Long Island Two people were arrested during an underage liquor sales check conducted on Long Island. The checks took place in the Southampton area on Saturday, Aug. 19 at numerous locations. The operation was carried out by the Southampton Police in conjunction with the State Liquor Authority.
