Molinaro Presents Health, Safety, Fiscal Goals For Dutchess County In 2016
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Dutchess County will be healthier, safer, and more prosperous by the time 2026 rolls around, County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro vowed in his State of the County address this week.
Molinaro laid out the three goals Wednesday, Jan. 27, before a large crowd at the Bardavon Opera House in downtown Poughkeepsie.
“While the state of our county is strong, if we think differently and act boldly, we can make it even stronger,” the county executive told his audience.

Weekend Blizzard Ranks Among Top 5 Worst Storms In Last 60 Years
You weren’t imagining it; last week’s monster snowstorm was among the top five worst to strike the Northeast in the last 60 years, according to a report by pbs.org.
Citing the Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale -- which ranks storms according to inches of snowfall, the size of the area affected, and the number of people affected – the pbs.org story said the Saturday, Jan. 23, blizzard was a “Category 4,” or “crippling” storm.
The scale covers weather data going back to 1950.

Yorktown Man Charged With Drinking In Public
YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A Yorktown man was arrested this week after he consumed alcohol in public, police said.
Sidney M. Russ, 44, was charged Monday, Jan. 25, with drinking in a public place, a violation, after authorities responded to a complaint at 1974 Commerce St., police said.
He was ticketed, released and ordered to appear in court on Tuesday, Feb. 9, police said.

Donald Trump is leading in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, according to the latest poll from the Marist Institute for Public Opinion in Poughkeepsie.
In Iowa, the poll said, both the Bedford billionaire, a Republican, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Democrat, are counting on getting first-time attendees to caucus.

Rockland Students To Open Window Into County's History
NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Local high school students will open a window into Rockland’s past at an upcoming conference sponsored by the county’s historical society.
The annual gathering, set for March 2, will be held at SUNY Rockland Community College’s campus in Suffern, and will bring together history students, their advisers, and Social Studies Department chairpeople from schools all over Rockland.
