Stamford Follows Cold-Weather Protocols, Offers Shelters, Warming Centers
STAMFORD, CONN. -- The subzero temperatures that will set teeth chattering throughout the region for the next several days has prompted Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to activate the state’s “severe weather protocol.”
The protocol, now in effect, will remain active through 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15.
Most importantly, Malloy said, it directs various emergency departments to coordinate with 2-1-1 and the state’s network of shelters to ensure that vulnerable populations, such as the homeless and elderly, are safe and warm.

Suspect Wanted In Ridgewood Cabbie Kidnapping Arrested
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- A fourth suspect in the robbery and kidnapping of a New Jersey cab driver has been arrested in Suffern, N.Y., police said.
Juan Chileseo-Vega, 19, who had been wanted in the Ridgewood case, was grabbed by local police, the FBI, and members of the Rockland County SWAT team at a residence Thursday, authorities said.
Already arrested in the case were Guillermo Carrillo-Iraheta, 18, a Suffern resident who was captured in Mahwah; Jostin Vidal Reyes, 20, of Waldwick, and Wilbur J. Barhona, 20, of Ridgewood.

Rhinebeck Pantry Takes Pride In Helping Others
RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- In these fiscally challenging times, a person's life circumstances can change in the blink of an eye.
And when jobs are lost or benefits cut, it becomes to feed yourself and your family. That is where the volunteers at the Rhinebeck Pantry at the Church of the Messiah come in.
The pantry, at 6346 Main Street, is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday, but accommodations can be made for people who can’t make those hours, Parke said.
Parke estimated that the pantry gives out 80,000 pounds of food a year, enough for 37,000 meals.

Putnam Humane Society Introduces 'Bambi'
CARMEL, N.Y. – Bambi, a puggle/pit bull/boxer mix, is hoping that someone will take her home for Valentine’s Day, say the folks at the Putnam Humane Society.
The shelter, located in Carmel, says the 2-year-old female with big, brown eyes is affectionate, playful, and the perfect size for a doggy companion.
Bambi and other dogs are all up for adoption and can be visited at the shelter daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cat lovers can visit the kitties from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Carmel Woman Charged With Selling Heroin
CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Carmel woman has been charged with selling heroin in the Mahopac area, Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith said.
Lindsey Schupp, 23, was arrested on Monday, Feb. 8, following a six-month-long investigation by the Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Enforcement Unit, Smith said.
Schupp has been charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony; third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, Smith said.
