East Ramapo Schools, Hoping To Restore Programs, Look To Albany
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- The troubled East Ramapo school district would have to breach the tax cap if it spends $6 million to restore full-day kindergarten and other programs without the state’s help, according to a report by lohud.com
While the state cap is 0.12 percent, schools Superintendent Deborah Wortham presented the Board of Education on Wednesday with a preliminary budget that would raise taxes by 1.69 percent, lohud.com reported.

Millbrook Man Stopped For Speeding Faces Drug, DWI Charges
MILLBROOK, N.Y. -- A Millbrook man faces multiple charges after he was stopped by New York State Police on Wednesday, police said.
Stephen C. Pastorek, 46, was arrested on South Road by a state trooper who had spotted him speeding and failing to stay in his lane on Route 82, police said.
According to police, Pastorek, after pulling into his driveway, was seen tossing two bags of cocaine out of his car.

Wanted Mahopac Woman, 21, Arrested By State Police
MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- A Mahopac woman, wanted by several police departments on drug and other charges, has been arrested, says Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith.
Celina Savoca, 21, was spotted by sheriff’s deputies at a shopping center in Mahopac on Thursday, March 3, and taken into custody, Smith said.
Savoca was wanted by local authorities in Yorktown, Brewster and Poughkeepsie, and by state police based in Cortlandt, on charges of criminal mischief and criminal possession of a controlled substance, the sheriff said.
After processing, she was turned over to Yorktown police, Smith said.
Films With Dutchess Ties To Be Shown At NYC, Austin Festivals
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Hudson Valley will be well represented when the curtains rise at two prominent films festivals, according to a report by lohud.com.
