Rye Violinist Makes Beautiful Music With Handcrafted Instruments
RYE, N.Y. -- Ever wondered how violins, violas and cellos are made?
Violin maker Robert Isley, who maintains a two-room studio in downtown Rye, says that a considerable amount of detail goes into crafting the string instruments.
For centuries, the surface of these instruments have been made from the wood of Canadian and Swiss spruce trees. The back, sides and neck are made from Maple trees from the Alps, Balkans and Bosnia.
Only “hide” glue, an adhesive made from the connective tissues, bones and skins of animals (usually cattle), is used to assemble them.

Buchanan Man Charged With Violating Order Of Protection
CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- A Buchanan man faces charges after state police said he violated an order of protection.
Daniel V. Piamonte, 60, was charged with criminal contempt, a felony, on Monday, April 4, police said.
He was arrested in Cortlandt court where he was appearing in an unrelated criminal case, police said.
State troopers investigating a report of a domestic disturbance at a Cortlandt home in February found that Piamonte had violated an order of protection by contacting someone who lived there, police said.
Piamonte fled the scene before the officers arrived, police said.

The first group, which discusses books with the theme of “Words Around the World,” will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, and at 7 p.m. Monday, April 18.

Homeless Woman Charged With Failure To Appear In Yorktown
YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A homeless woman wanted for trespassing was arrested after she was found sleeping in the “common area” of the post office on Maple Hill Street, Yorktown police said.
Ada Beneraf, 53, had been wanted on an active warrant for failing to appear in court on the trespassing charge, police said.
She was arrested around 3:39 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, police said.
Beneraf was sent to Westchester County Jail after failing to post $250 bail, police said.
She was scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, April 7, police said.
