Retired Ramapo Officer Sworn In As Deputy Sheriff In Florida
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Rockland’s loss is apparently Florida’s gain, said Ramapo police as they congratulated one of their own this week for his new position as a sheriff’s deputy.
Retired Police Officer Jack Kane, who has joined the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was sworn in Tuesday, Ramapo police said.
In 2012, Kane was one of 26 local police officers who were honored by Rockland Count STOP-DWI for their efforts in curbing drunk driving in the county, according to media reports.

Six Charged In Hudson Valley Prostitution Sting
A prostitution sting conducted by Clarkstown law enforcement and the Rockland County District’s Attorney’s Office netted six suspects last week, police said.
The joint operation focused, police said, on local hotels and motels where authorities have detected an increase in the illegal activity.
Investigators posted an “ad” on the Internet and, within four hours on Friday, April 1 were contacted by more than 140 alleged “johns,” police said.

Nanuet Residents Narrowly Escape House Fire
NANUET, N.Y. -- An elderly couple narrowly escaped with their lives as flames engulfed their Nanuet home early Friday, Clarkstown police said.
The two-story home at 45 Mesa Place was badly damaged in the blaze, which started shortly after midnight, police said.
The fire, which appears to have started on the back deck, spread to other parts of the house and caused the roof to cave in.
It was knocked down in about 40 minutes, according to a report by lohud.com.
Police said that the fire does not seem to be suspicious.
