Poughkeepsie Native Mauled By Chimp Fights Face Transplant Problems
The Poughkeepsie native who had a face transplant after being attacked by a chimp seven years ago is experiencing a "moderate" rejection of the tissue, doctors say, according to a report by The New York Times.
Charla Nash was mauled in Stamford, Conn., by Travis, a chimp who belonged to her friend Sandra Herold, according to multiple media reports.
Nash lost her nose, ears, lips, hands and eyesight in the attack.

Archdiocese Asks Poughkeepsie Priest, Ex-Chaplain, To Undergo PTSD Review
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie priest, who served as an Army chaplain during the Iraq war, says he is being targeted by the archdiocese because he has post-traumatic stress disorder, according to a report by The Poughkeepsie Journal.
The Rev. Robert Repenning, who has been pastor at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church on Main Street for several years, has been asked by Cardinal Timothy Dolan to undergo a health assessment in order to continue in his post, The Poughkeepsie Journal story said.

College Student From Rye Dies Of Drug Overdose, Reports Say
RYE, N.Y. – A graduate of Rye High School died of an apparent drug overdose – the school's sixth graduate to do so in the last two years, according to multiple media reports.
Elliot A. Meister, 20, was found dead in a dorm at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., on April 27, according to media reports.
Meister, a sophomore and engineering student at Vanderbilt, was a member of the high school’s class of 2014 and was said to be an outstanding student, having been only one of three there to achieve finalist status in that year’s National Merit Scholarship Program.

'Puma' Lighting Up New Family's Life, Putnam Humane Society Says
PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Putnam County Humane Society recently shared a success story about one of its hard-to-place kitties.
Puma, a lovable black female with FIV, or feline immunodeficiency virus, was adopted by a family in December and has been “lighting up” its days every since.
Puma’s new “mom” told the society that the kitty loves “being cuddly, silly and watching TV with us.”
Along with a family, Puma acquired some nicknames along the way: Mushie Face, Mamasita, and #Pumieee.

Two Charged In Thefts At West Nyack Sporting Goods Store
WEST NYACK, N.Y. -- Two employees of a West Nyack sporting goods shop, accused of making off with thousands of dollars in merchandise, are now facing grand larceny charges, police said.
Loss prevention personnel at Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Palisades Mall have accused 20-year-old Luis Hernandez and 18-year-old Raul Lopez, both of West Haverstraw, in the months-long scam, police said.
Police said Hernandez voided purchases made by Lopez, then a customer, who left the store with the stolen goods.
