Mount Vernon Nursing Home Sets Talk On Alzheimer's, Dementia
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A discussion on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia will be offered at Wartburg, a nursing home and senior living facility in Mount Vernon.
The Tuesday, May 17, presentation will be led by a panel of experts from the Alzheimer’s Association, Burke Rehabilitation Center, Pace University, and Wartburg.
They will talk about the early warning signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia, current research, clinical studies, tips for caregivers, and ways to keep individuals with these conditions engaged through art and music.

College Student From Westchester Dies Of Drug Overdose, Reports Say
RYE, N.Y. – A graduate of Rye High School died of an apparent drug overdose – the school's sixth graduate to do so in the last two years, according to multiple media reports.
Elliot A. Meister, 20, was found dead in a dorm at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., on April 27, according to media reports.
Meister, a sophomore and engineering student at Vanderbilt, was a member of the high school’s class of 2014 and was said to be an outstanding student, having been only one of three there to achieve finalist status in that year’s National Merit Scholarship Program.

BETHEL, Conn. -- A Bethel woman has launched a GoFundMe campaign to aid a neighbor who lost her home to a fire last Saturday.
Katie Putnam, a resident of the Plumtree Heights condominium complex off Maple Avenue, is raising money for Costas and Kirsten Koromilas, who have two small children, ages 5 and 7.
According to a report by patch.com, the weekend fire was fought by the Bethel, Stony Hill, and Danbury fire departments.

Coyote Spotted At Baseball Field In Rockland
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. – If the klutzy third baseman at the Lake Nanuet Park ball fields was simply all paws last weekend, he had a good excuse – coyotes don’t have opposable thumbs, Clarkstown police say.
One of the doglike critters was spotted, if not running the bases, then roaming around the edges of, the fenced-in field, police said.
Police were warning parents using the park to keep an eagle eye on their little ones and family pets.
