Westport Girls Capture 11-Year-Old State Championship WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport’s 11-year-old All-Stars rolled through the competition to capture the state Little League championship, including a 7-6 walk-off win over Union City in the final game. Westport, led by manager Neil Gabriele, finished the state tournament 3-0. It also went 3-0 in the District 2 tournament to earn the right to play against the best teams from around the state. In the state championship win, Westport trailed 6-4 heading into its last at-bat in the sixth inning. Stamford North Rolls To District 1 Little League Crown STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford North completed its unbeaten run through the District 1 Little League tournament Tuesday with an 18-12 victory over Norwalk in the title game. The Stamford players aim to keep their dream alive to reach Williamsport, Pa. and the Little League World Series in the Section 1 tournament beginning Tuesday, July 19 at Unity Park in Trumbull. Carol Amelia Rathgeb, 91, Park Ridge Resident PARK RIDGE, N.J. -- Carol Amelia Rathgeb, 91, of Park Ridge, died on July 10 at her home, surrounded by her family.She was the wife of the late Robert J. Rathgeb, Sr. for 61 years. She was a 1942 graduate of Park Ridge High School. Before having children, Carol held secretarial positions at Standard and Poors in Manhattan, Van Dusen Aircraft and the Bendix Corporation, both in Teterboro. Later she was the cafeteria manager at St. Joseph Regional High School, retiring in 1987. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy R. C. Church. She is survived by her son Robert J. Norwalk's Connecticut Boat Club Sends 8 Rowers To National Teams, Camps NORWALK, Conn. – Eight Connecticut Boat Club (CBC) athletes were invited to USRowing’s highly competitive Development, High Performance and U19 Selection camps based in New London, Connecticut. Students From Westport's Sister City In China Pay Visit To Town Hall, Beach WESTPORT, Conn. -- Twenty students from Wesport's sister city in China, Yangzhou, recently visited Town Hall, Bedford Middle School and Compo Beach.Students ages 12-14 met with Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe and ate breakfast at Bedford Middle School. School principal Dr. Adam Rosen hosted the group breakfast with the BMS students and their mandarin teacher, Murray Martha. After the breakfast, Dr. Rosen gave the group a tour of the school and asked students to join a physical education class in the gym. Westport Schools Superintendent Dr. Colleen Palmer also met the students.

Bronxville's Mary Cain Falls Short In Olympic Bid BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Just two years ago, Bronxville's Mary Cain seemed like a lock to make the United States Olympic team and perhaps even win a medal at this year's Summer Games. Now, the former teenage sensation won't even heading to Rio next month. Cain finished a distant 11th, out of 12, in Sunday's final of the 1,500 meters of the U.S. Track and Field trials in Eugene, Ore.
