Sentencing: Long Island Shooter Who Left Victim Quadriplegic To Spend 25 Years Behind Bars A Long Island man who pointed a loaded gun at another man’s head and fired, leaving him quadriplegic, will now spend over two decades behind bars, authorities announced. Carlos Spielfogel-Lopez, age 36, was given his sentence on Wednesday, Sept. 6, months after he had been convicted by a jury for the Hempstead incident, according to the Nassau County District Attorney. Northern State Parkway Closure Planned On Long Island A maintenance project will close down this ramp on the Northern State Parkway leading to the Long Island Expressway, transportation officials announced. On Thursday, Sept. 7, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the Exit 29A ramp from the westbound Northern State Parkway to the westbound LIE will be closed, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. The East Hills closure, which is weather-permitting, is to facilitate bridge maintenance. Man Accused Of Attempting To Rape Woman Walking On Long Island Street A man was arrested after authorities say he attempted to rape a woman while she walked down the street on Long Island. It happened on Friday, Aug. 4 in Inwood, according to Nassau County Police. A 50-year-old woman was walking on Nassau Avenue at approximately 5:30 a.m. when the suspect, Freddie Keitt, allegedly came up behind her and grabbed her by the waist. Oil Thief Caught Siphoning From Popular CT Restaurant: Police A New York man was caught stealing cooking oil from a local Connecticut restaurant in an early-morning escapade, police said. The New Haven County incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Milford, the city’s police department announced. Duo Nabbed For Neglecting 19 Puppies In Car On Long Island, Police Say Two men were caught on Long Island with over a dozen puppies shoved into just two crates, along with guns and a 2-year-old, police said. On Friday, Sept. 1 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Suffolk County Police saw the car, a 2022 Jeep Compass, in the parking lot of 301 Merritt Avenue in Wyandanch. Inside were 19 pit bull puppies in two crates. The puppies were covered in feces and did not have sufficient food and water, air, or shelter, police said. 19 DWI Arrests Made On Long Island Over Labor Day Weekend, 2 For Leandra's Law According to police, over a dozen drunk drivers were taken off Long Island roads over the holiday weekend, two violating Leandra Law, while hundreds more were given tickets. Woman Found Dead At Long Island Beach The body of a woman was recovered in the water off the coast of Long Island. Click here for the updated story: New Information: Woman Found Dead Off Long Beach Drowned, Police Say On Tuesday, Sept. 5 at approximately 6:24 a.m., Nassau County Police reported to the Lincoln Beach area of Long Beach after a call about a body in the water. Naked Man Punches Woman, Runs Into Oncoming Traffic On Long Island: Police A Long Island man was arrested after he punched a woman, attempted to run into traffic, and fought an officer – all while nude, police said. It happened on Sunday, Sept. 3 in New Hyde Park, according to Nassau County Police. On Friday, Sept. 1, the Connecticut State Police announced the arrest of 38-year-old Robert Doyle for the Tolland County robbery that occurred nearly a month before. DUI Arrest: Man Drove 2 Times Above Legal Limit In Darien, Police Say A man was arrested in Fairfield County after police said he was driving while intoxicated and without proper headlights. The Fairfield County incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 23 in Darien, according to Darien Police.
