Scary Drivers: Hochul Orders Crackdown On Drunk, Aggressive Driving Over Halloween Weekend As Halloween approaches, officials are taking measures to ensure that New Yorkers can have a safe and scary-good time. Starting Friday, Oct. 27, and lasting through Tuesday, Oct. 31, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that both state and local law enforcement will be on patrol in an attempt to crack down on impaired driving. Anyone driving during the crackdown can expect sobriety checkpoints, Hochul said. School Bus, 2 Cars Collide On Long Island's Southern State Parkway Seven children were on a school bus when it collided with two passenger vehicles on the Southern State Parkway on Long Island, police said. It happened on Thursday, Oct. 26 in Hempstead. Just after 3 p.m., the two cars and the school bus — carrying seven children and one driver — crashed into each other near Exit 19 on the westbound side, according to New York State Police. A passenger from one of the cars was taken to the hospital as a precaution, police said. There were no other injuries reported. Woman Hit, Killed At Long Island Intersection A woman died after being struck by a vehicle in a Long Island intersection, authorities said. It happened on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at approximately 6:50 a.m. in West Hempstead, according to Nassau County Police. Cathy Leary, age 75, was crossing Cornwell Avenue at the intersection of Wildwood Road when she was struck by a 2019 Hyundai SUV that was traveling east on Cornwell Avenue. Leary, a resident of West Hempstead, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The driver, who was 19 years old, remained at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

18-Year-Old Nabbed In Stamford For Stealing Car, Credit Cards In Darien, Police Say A man has been arrested after he stole a car from a Connecticut residence and later used the owner’s credit cards at a rest stop, police said. On Wednesday, Oct. 18 in Fairfield County, 18-year-old Robert Barbera was arrested by Darien Police officers in the city of Stamford, the department reported. Barbera’s arrest comes months after his alleged actions in August 2023. Officers put out a warrant for his arrest just two weeks prior to his being taken into custody. Robbery: Woman Stabs 7-Eleven Employee On Long Island, Flees, Police Say Police are searching for a woman who, when confronted by a Long Island 7-Eleven employee for stealing, stabbed the man and fled the scene. It happened on Sunday, Oct. 22 in Uniondale, according to Nassau County Police.
