Toy Gun Sends Capital District Middle, High Schools Into Lockdown Word that a student had brought a gun to campus sent two schools in the region into lockdown Wednesday morning, Sept. 14. In Warren County, students and staff at Glens Falls Middle School were placed on lockdown just after 10 a.m. after a student reported to a social worker that they saw what looked like a gun fall out of another student’s backpack, according to Glens Falls City Schools. Authorities In Region Issue New Warning Of Phone Scammers Posing As Cops Law enforcement authorities in the region have issued a new warning about an increased number of phone scammers trying to trick people out of their hard-earned money. The latest scam involves criminals posing as law enforcement officers claiming that victims need to pay money in order to avoid criminal charges, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said. Stranger Held Dying Pedestrian's Hand After He Was Struck By Car In Capital District A pedestrian who lay dying after being struck by a car in the region was not alone as he took his last breath, thanks to the generosity of a stranger. Emergency crews in Rensselaer County were called just after 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, with reports that a male pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the town of Brunswick, near Highway 2 and Blue Factory Road. 17-Year-Old Pointed Loaded Gun At Mom During Argument In Capital District, Police Say A teenage boy is behind bars after allegedly pointing a loaded handgun at his mother during an altercation in the region. Police were called at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 in Albany with reports of a domestic assault involving a gun at a home on Second Avenue. When officers arrived, the victim told police that she and her 17-year-old son got into an argument when the boy pointed a loaded handgun at her, Albany Police said. County Elections Commissioner In NY Committed Voter Fraud, Feds Say One of two men tasked with overseeing elections in a New York county was led into a federal courtroom in Albany wearing handcuffs Tuesday, Sept 13, accused of voter fraud. Rensselaer County’s Republican Elections Commissioner, Jason Schofield, age 42, of Troy, was indicted on 12 counts charging him with using other people’s names and dates of birth to fraudulently apply for absentee ballots. Capital District Man Accused Of Raping Child Under Age 17, Police Say A Capital District man is facing charges for allegedly raping a child under the age of 17. Saratoga County resident Siatar Creech, age 36, of Northumberland, was arrested on a warrant Monday, Sept. 12, following an investigation by New York State Police.
