Driver, 38, Killed After Hitting Landscaping Stone, Tree In South Jersey Crash A 38-year-old Williamstown man died in a Franklin Township crash late Saturday, March 2, local police said. Robert Lafferty III's Kia Optima veered off the 3500 block of West Malaga Road into the oncoming lane of traffic before hitting a landscaping stone, several mailboxes and a tree before coming to rest, local police said. Lafferty was hospitalized where he was pronounced dead while his 41-year-old male passenger suffered a possible broken wrist, police said. The crash remains under investigation.

Death Of Newark 2-Year-Old Investigated By County Prosecutor The death of a 2-year-old child is under investigation in Newark, officials said. Police were called to a home on the 100 block of South Orange Avenue around 2:15 p.m. Saturday, March 2, for a baby in distress, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Arriving officers located the baby inside a the home, and the baby was pronounced dead just after 2:30 p.m., officials said. The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy. The demonstration began outside City Hall before migrating to the bridge at approximately 2 p.m. The protestors could be heard chanting "Free Palestine" and "From the river to the sea Palestine will be free." New Jersey E. Coli Outbreak Linked To Raw Cheese Product, CDC Says A case of E. coli in New Jersey has been linked to a recalled cheese product. Eleven people were sickened by Raw Farm's Raw Cheddar cheese products, both original and jalapeno-flavored, the CDC said. "Whole genome sequencing analysis of E. coli isolates from ill people shows that they are all closely related genetically to each other," the FDA said.  "This means that people in this outbreak are likely to share a common source of infection." Five people were hospitalized. The product was recalled by Raw Farm on Feb. 16, but on Feb. 26, the company withdrew the voluntary recall.

The officer was responding to a Hawkins Street home near Horatio Street  to assist DCP&P in gaining entry around 3:30 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. That's when a female suspect threw a hot liquid, suspected to be bleach, on the office, Frage said.  The officer was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center for treatment of second-degree burns and the woman, whose name has not been released, was arrested.
