Putnam IDA Tells County Legislators That It Urgently Needs Funds
CARMEL, N.Y. -- The Putnam Industrial Development Agency went with hat in hand recently to the county Legislature, according to a report in The Examiner.
IDA Chairman Richard Ruchala, appearing at the Aug. 5 meeting of the Legislature's Economic Development Committee, told legislators that his agency has less than $400 left in its coffers, and needs at least $40,000 in order to keep functioning until the end of the year, the report said.

Joseph Leopold Silhavy, 80, Retired Easton Police Sergeant
EASTON, Conn. -- Joseph Leopold Silhavy, a retired Easton police sergeant, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was 80.
Silhavy was born in Bridgeport on March 20, 1935, to the late Joseph and Susan (Bendik) Silhavy.
He attended Samuel Staples Elementary School in Easton and the Bullard-Havens Technical High School in Bridgeport. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served during the Korean War.

Man Faces Multiple Charges In Theft Of $500K From ATMs In Area
CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Dutchess County man is facing grand larceny and other charges after police said he siphoned off $500,000 from ATMs around the region, according to Putnam County District Attorney Adam Levy.
Dean P. Mogan, 61, of Wappingers Falls, was indicted by a Putnam County grand jury on 15 counts, including scheme to defraud, grand larceny, petit larceny, and felony and misdemeanor counts of criminal tax fraud, Levy said.
Mogan worked for a Putnam company that stocks and maintains ATMs in Putnam, Westchester and Fairfield (Conn.) counties.
