SilverSource Receives Two Grants to Support Medical Transportation
STAMFORD, Conn. -- SilverSource Inc., a Stamford organization that supports older adults, has received $20,000 in grants from First County Bank Foundation and Purdue Pharma L.P.
The grants will allow the nonprofit to continue providing rides its clients with rides to and from medical and dental appointments, said its executive director, Kathleen Bordelon.

Greenwich Seeks Applicants For Fall Citizens' Police Academy
GREENWICH, CONN. -- The Greenwich Police Department announced this week it is accepting applications for its Citizens’ Police Academy’s fall session.
The program gives residents a “first-hand overview” of the department’s law-enforcement and community-related functions, police said.
Topics of instruction include introduction to policing, use of force, scams and fraud, patrol operations, crime prevention, motor vehicle stops, DUI stops, narcotics investigations, special response unit and domestic violence investigations.
The seven-week program starts Monday, Sept. 21.

Warren Braren, Former Head Of Yonkers-Based Consumers Union, 82
NEW MILFORD, CONN. -- Warren H. Braren, who stood up to the tobacco industry in the 1970s, died Thursday, Aug. 13, at his home in New Milford, Conn., The New York Times reported Tuesday.
Braren, who was the former executive of Consumers Union, a Yonkers, N.Y.-based advocacy organization, was 82. Family members told the Times that the cause was a heart attack.
Braren’s whistleblowing efforts spurred a ban on tobacco advertising on television and radio, the Times reported.

Elmsford Event To Offer Snapshot Of Southern Westchester Music Fest
MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Fifteen world-class folk, alternative and indie bands will perform on Saturday, Sept. 19 at this year’s SOWE (Southern Westchester) Music Festival in Mamaroneck, according to the event’s organizers.
The fest runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Harbor Island Park. In addition to music, there will be wine, beer and food trucks available. The park is located at 124 Mamaroneck Ave.
