Stamford Mayor Declares December As Toys For Tots Month
STAMFORD, Conn. -- Mayor David Martin officially kicked off Toys for Tots Month in a ceremony in Stamford.
Martin, joined by state Sen. Carlo Leone and Toys for Tots coordinator George Ducanic, expressed appreciation for the efforts of numerous local organizations.
Specifically mentioned by Martin were: American Legion Post 3, the Lock City Detachment Marine Corps League of Veterans, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, the Springdale VFW Post 9617, the Jewish War Veterans Post 142, and the Catholic War Veterans Post 1957.

Fairfield Chamber Kicks Off Holidays With Party At Theater Company
FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce will kick off the holiday season with a party on Monday, Dec. 7.
The annual event, hosted by the Fairfield Theater Company, runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at its new warehouse space, 70 Sanford St., Fairfield.
Food and drinks will be served. Entertainment will be provided by Close Harmony, a group of talented Fairfield Ludlowe High School students.
Admission is $25 for Chamber members, guests, and non-members; $35 for walk-ins. For an additional $5, there will be an open wine and beer bar. For mixed drinks, there will be a cash bar.

Nyack Art Center To Screen 'Cadmium Yellow,' Celebrate Artist Joyce Brynes
NYACK, N.Y. – The Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack will screen “Cadmium Yellow,” a 1982 film by Richard Rogers about young New York City artists, on Friday, Dec. 4.The program, which will open with an intro and talk by Nyack’s Tony Ziegler, one of the artists featured in the film, starts at 7 p.m.
A reception for the center’s “artist of the month,” Joyce Brynes, starts at 6 p.m.
A native of Staten Island, Brynes has lived in Rockland County since 1997.

Vermont Resort To Christen $7.5M Barnstormer Heated Ski Lift
Skiers, get ready, get set, hit the slopes — in the warmth and comfort of a brand-new bubble lift at The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain in West Dover, Vt.
The resort recently unveiled its new $7.5 million Barnstormer, which it says is the only Doppelmayr detachable, six-person lift in the country.
It has a Plexiglas bubble that protects passengers from the elements and heated seats, said Mike Quinn, vice president and general manager of operations.
The club will dedicate the new lift on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 9 a.m. with a ceremony and a trip to the summit for members and guests.

Library Says Artwork From Piermont Show Are Good Stocking Stuffers
PIERMONT, N.Y. – The Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library will host its annual Gift of Art sale on Sunday, library officials said.
The holiday sale, and gala reception, are set for 3 - 5 p.m.
The library is located at 25 Flywheel Park W., Piermont.
The group show will feature small works by local artists, which, library officials said, would make excellent holiday gifts.

Former Wilton Woman Found Slain in Killingworth Murder-Suicide, Police Say
WILTON, Conn. – A former Wilton woman has been identified by police as the victim of an apparent murder-suicide in the Middlesex County town of Killingworth, according to a report in the Wilton Bulletin.
Lauren Beebe, 48, and her husband, Billy Newman, 57, were both found dead of gunshot wounds on Wednesday, Nov. 25, in their home, the Wilton Bulletin reported.
Beebe’s death was categorized as a homicide, and her husband’s, a suicide, the paper reported.
