Wilton Rock Concert Raises 26K For Food Charities
WILTON, N.Y. -- Two local food charities got a big boost recently after Wilton resident Andy Schlesinger pulled off a fund-raising rock concert, according to a report in the Wilton Bulletin.
The first-ever Wilton Rocks for Food event, held at the Trackside Teen Center, raised $26,000 for the Wilton Interfaith Food Pantry and the Connecticut Food Bank, the Bulletin reported. The money was split evenly between the two entitites.
Schlesinger, a musician himself, gathered together local bands, graphic designers, sponsors, and volunteers for the Dec. 5 event, according to the story.

MOUNT VERNON, CONN. -- In an effort to ease their transition from shelters and emergency apartments to permanent housing, one local agency has found a unique way to help the homeless in Mount Vernon -- and elsewhere in the region.
Community Housing Innovations, which operates dozens of emergency housing apartments in the city, has launched an initiative which, it said, will allow the public to directly purchase Bed Bath & Beyond® gift cards for homeless families in Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Nassau, and Suffolk counties.

Lawmakers Applaud Pool Safety Grant Won By Bridgeport, Stamford
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. -- Local lawmakers and water safety advocates are applauding a grant, which, they say, will help the cities of Bridgeport and Stamford prevent drownings.
U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), and U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-4) said the $206,225 in grant money will be used for education, training, and the enforcement of pool safety requirements.
According to a statement released by the three, drowning is the number one cause in the nation of unintentional injury death for children ages 1 to 4.

Mount Pleasant Honor Students Donate Toys To Blythedale Children's Hospital
VALHALLA, N.Y. -- There were presents for the young patients at the Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla on Christmas thanks to a holiday toy drive.
Mount Pleasant students, members of the National Honor Society, gathered up new, unwrapped toys from the student body, faculty, and staff and, within a few weeks, were able to fill a large, decorated “Blythedale Toy Drive” box with gifts.
Honor Society adviser Anthony Paduano, a teacher at Westlake High School in Thornwood, and NHS members boxed up the gifts and delivered them to the hospital in time for Christmas.
