Ramapo Police Make Dwai Arrest, Respond To Multiple Accidents
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A Southfields man faces charges of driving while ability impaired by drugs after he was pulled over Sunday, Jan. 31, in Sloatsburg, police said.
The unidentified 47-year-old driver was stopped by police, they said, for a defective headlight on Route 17.
The arresting officer determined that the driver was impaired, police said.
There were also eight motor vehicle accidents reported on Sunday, police said.
One involved minor injury, and one was a hit and run, police said.

Ulster Inmate Charged With Assault After Punching Guard, Police Say
WAWARSING, N.Y. -- An Ulster County inmate has been charged with punching a correction officer in the face, state police said.
Damar Taylor, 38, of New York City, was charged with second-degree assault by state police based in Ellenville.
Taylor, who is incarcerated at the Ulster Correctional Facility in Warwarsing, attacked the guard on Thursday, Jan. 28, after the officer tried to enforce prison rules, state police said.
He hit the guard in the face several times with his fist and seriously injured him, police said.

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- There are dozens of unsightly abandoned homes in Mount Vernon, and the city’s mayor is seeking funding to either tear them down or fix them up, according to a report by lohud.
It’s not just that the “zombie” homes are a ugly and can affect the property values in their neighborhoods, there are safety issues involved, Richard Thomas told lohud.

Rockland Sheriff's Office To Hold 'Digital' Open Houses
ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Rockland residents know that the county’s top law enforcement agency is there to protect them, but do they how it actually works?
County Sheriff Louis Falco this week announced that his office will be hosting a monthly “digital open house” that will show the public how each of its divisions, or units, works.

College President, Prison, Police Tops In Lower Hudson Salaries
SUNY Purchase’s president, Tom Schwarz, is the region’s highest paid state worker, according to a report by lohud.
Schwarz earned close to $300,000 in 2015, the lohud report said.
Following close behind the top educator in fat salaries were doctors at the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, and employees at Sing Sing prison in Ossining, and with the New York State Police, the lohud story said.
