State Trooper From Somers Barracks Charged In Theft Of $22K In Equipment
SOMERS, N.Y. – A state trooper assigned to the Somers barracks is facing charges in connection with the theft of landscaping equipment, state police said.
Marko Kos, 35, of Brewster, was arrested on Wednesday, March 2, and charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, police said.
The 13-year Troop K veteran took $22,000 in landscaping equipment while he was off duty, state police said.
The theft had been reported to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in 2014, police said.
Kos has been suspended without pay and is awaiting arraignment in Town of Southeast Court, state police said.

Fight For Mandarin Classes Suffers Setback In Scarsdale
SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- There will be no Mandarin classes at the Scarsdale Middle School this fall, district officials say.
In a recent memo to Schools Superintendent Thomas Hagerman, Scarsdale’s curriculum chief, Lynne Shain, said the numbers do not support the hiring of another language teacher.
Shain told the Board of Education on Thursday, Feb. 25, that only 42 incoming sixth-graders had indicated an interest in learning the Chinese dialect, while the minimum required was 48.
She pointed out that the original proposed minimum had been 60.

Haverstraw Man Stole Store Customer's Credit Card, Police Say
STONY POINT, N.Y. -- A clerk at an unnamed Stony Point business is facing charges in connection with the theft of a customer’s credit card, police said.
Armando L. Castillo, 22, of Haverstraw, was arrested on Tuesday, March 1, and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
Castillo used the stolen card to buy things, police said. He was released and is to appear in court in April, police said..
Former Priest From Weston Charged With Embezzling From Seymour Church
WESTON, Conn. -- A Weston man who was formerly the pastor of a Catholic church in Seymour has been arrested in an embezzlement case, according to a report in the Connecticut Post.
The Rev. Honore Kombo, 50, was charged with first-degree larceny, accused of stealing $20,000 that had been willed to St. Augustine’s Church by a parishioner, the Post reported.
Kombo, who is free on bond, was placed on administrative leave by the Hartford Roman Catholic Archdiocese, the Post said.
