Artist Donates Painting Of John Green House To Nyack Historical Society NYACK, N.Y. -- John Green’s old Nyack house may not look like much now, but beneath its crumbling yellow stucco beats the heart of a historic home sturdily crafted from locally quarried red sandstone. The 1817 Dutch structure is believed to be the oldest in the village. Green, a successful businessman and pillar of the community, would not likely recognize the house now with its missing front porch and boarded-up windows, but that may soon change. Mohegan Lake Man Charged With Failure To Appear YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A Mohegan Lake man turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday, April 12, to face charges of driving without a license, Yorktown police said. Douglas J. Trawick, 23, was wanted for failing to appear in court in March to answer a charge of third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, police said. Trawick was arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court but could not make bail of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond and was sent to Westchester County Jail, police said.

Firefighters Respond To Report Of Sparks, Popping Sounds, Smoke In Croton CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Croton firefighters were summoned to a home on Lark Lane early Thursday after the owner reported sparks, popping sounds and smoke in his basement. Washington Engine Company No. 2 crews arrived shortly after 6:30 a.m. and found that a malfunctioning boiler had caused steam to pour into the basement, fire officials said. The boiler was turned off and a fan was used to vent the steam, fire officials said. The house was checked for hazards but none were found, according to fire officials.  The scene was cleared by 7 a.m., firefighters said.
