Friends, Family Gather To Honor Inmate Killed In Beacon Prison BEACON, N.Y. -- Friends and family members gathered in Beacon on Sunday to remember Samuel Harrell, an inmate of the Fishkill Correctional Facility who died last year after an altercation with prison guards, according to a report by The Poughkeepsie Journal. According to multiple media reports, other inmates at the medium-security Beacon prison have alleged that Harrell, who had a bipolar disorder, was handcuffed while he was repeatedly kicked and punched by the guards. More than 6,000 votes were cast. The cafe, which is owned and operated by siblings Stephanie and Christina Evans and is known for its homey vibe, won with 42 percent of the vote. Lagrangeville Students Top Winners In Lexus Eco Challenge LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. -- A team of student scientists from Arlington High School in Lagrangeville have turned a project on hormones and the environment into $40,000 windfall for their school. Flea Market Fans Brave Jammed Roads On Stormville's Opening Day Folks trying to get to the Stormville Flea Market on its opening day Sunday jammed roads and caused East Fishkill police some headaches. After a couple of fender-benders, the officers shut down access to Route 216 from Route 52 in the mid-afternoon Sunday. But dozens of determined flea fans (such as this writer), did an end run and got onto Route 216 from a different road. Poughkeepsie Man Gets Prison For Possession Of Stolen Property, DWI POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A city man has been sentenced to two to four years in state prison for possession of stolen property, according to a report by The Poughkeepsie Journal. Alfred Hotaling, 36, of Poughkeepsie, pleaded guilty in February to fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, The Poughkeepsie Journal story said.
