SOMERS, N.Y. -- Restaurants and other businesses in Somers are bracing for the loss of another mega-taxpayer and revenue generator, according to a report by lohud.com. IBM once had thousands of employees at its 730-acre Somers campus and many of them lived in the town and patronized local establishments, the lohud.com story said. A union is saying the Metropolitan Transportation Authority potentially endangered passengers by failing to immediately remove Metro-North employees accused of cheating on safety tests, according to a report by lohud.com. Montebello Landlord Accused Of Spitting On Ex-Tenant, Police Say
RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A local landlord is facing harassment charges after he was accused of spitting on a former tenant, Ramapo police said. The unidentified 60-year-old Montebello man was arrested Thursday. The tenant was trying to retrieve her security deposit on her former apartment when the alleged discharge of saliva occurred, police said. Poughkeepsie K-9 Sniffs Out Burglary Suspects Hiding Under Tarp
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A pair of burglary suspects who tried to avoid arrest in Poughkeepsie Thursday were no match for one four-footed “officer,” according to a report by Time Warner Cable News. Police were called to a home on Fair Way by a homeowner who said two men had just broken into his home, Time Warner Cable News reported. WEST NYACK, N.Y. -- The long-neglected graves of Revolutionary War soldiers at a small church cemetery in Clarkstown have been spruced up in time for Memorial Day, according to a report by lohud.com. Bear Keeps North Castle Employees Inside Building
NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- A business owner and two of his employees were briefly trapped inside a building on Sunday by a bear, according to a report in the North Castle police blotter. Police got a call about 10:30 a.m. from a person on Bedford-Banksville Road who said the animal was roaming around his property. MAHOPAC, N.Y. – The heroism of a Mahopac man and longtime New York City firefighter was recognized at a recent awards ceremony. Lt. John McGinty, of the New York City Fire Department’s Ladder Company 33, was chosen by the FDNY’s Board of Merit to receive the Uniformed Officers Association Medal for rescuing an unconscious woman from a burning building last April.
