Rockland Honors Two WWII Veterans On 72nd Anniversary Of D-Day
NEW CITY, N.Y. -- When the allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, in 1944, it was not only the biggest amphibious invasion in history, it was the beginning of the end of World War II.
But you don’t have to tell Rockland residents Rose Blickstein and Maurice Solomon that; they were right there, in the thick of it.
The two veterans were honored by county officials Monday at ceremonies marking D-Day’s 72nd anniversary.
Blickstein, 95, of Nanuet, and Solomon, 93, of Suffern, were presented with certificates of appreciation by County Executive Ed Day.

Food Network Star Nancy Fuller Feeds Fans At Rhinebeck Fair
RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Food Network star Nancy Fuller had a meet-and-feed with her fans at the recent Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck.
The annual event at the county fairgrounds features food, furniture, antiques, crafts, home and garden décor and plants.
Fuller, the author of “Farmhouse Rules,” a cookbook after which her popular TV show is named, made orzo salad with spring peas and creamy herb dressing to share with the crowd attending her talk.
Fuller, who owns a dairy farm in the Columbia County town of Copake, cracked jokes and invited a few of her 13 grandchildren to join her on stage. …
Milford Teen Who Stabbed Classmate To Death Over Prom Refusal Gets 25 Years
MILFORD, Conn. – A Milford teen, who pleaded no contest to charges he stabbed a classmate to death in 2014, has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars, according to a report by The Connecticut Post.
Christopher Plaskon, now 18, killed 16-year-old Maren Sanchez with a steak knife after she refused to go to their junior prom with him, The Connecticut Post said.
The two attended Jonathan Law High School.
He was sentenced Monday in state Superior Court by Judge John Ronan, the Post said.

Rockland Man Gets Prison In 2012 Road Rage Death
CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- A former Clarkstown North High School athlete has been sentenced to prison for his role in a road rage incident that took the life of a New Jersey woman, according to a report by northjersey.com.
John C. Emili, 24, of New City, was found guilty in April of vehicular homicide, the northjersey.com report said.
Emili and family members cried as he was sentenced to 5 1/2 years behind bars in Superior Court in Hackensack, N.J., last Friday, the northjersey.com report said.

'Perfect Storm' Tackles Heroin Epidemic With New City Event
NEW CITY, N.Y. -- “The Perfect Storm,” a program that takes a grassroots approach to tackling prescription drug and heroin abuse, will be presented in New City this week.
Police, local leaders and the nonprofit group, Wellcore, are sponsoring the Tuesday, June 7 event so parents and others can learn more about the ongoing epidemic.
