Incumbent Vavrek Wins 4th Term As First Selectman In Monroe MONROE, Conn. -- First Selectman Steve Vavrek grabbed another term as first selectman in Monroe with a narrow victory Tuesday over Democrat Dan Hunsberger. Vavrek, a Republican, won a fourth term with nearly 2,400 votes, according to unofficial results. Hunsberger received more than 1,900 votes. Vavrek defeated Hunsberger in the 2013 election by about 17 percent. This year’s result was far closer, with Vavrek getting about 55 percent of the vote. Stratford Voters Reject Proposed Sale Of Sewer Facilities STRATFORD, Conn. -- Stratford voters resoundingly rejected the sale of Stratford’s sewer system facilities to the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority, according to a report on News 12. By a margin of 3-1, Stratford voters rejected the proposed sale.  Mayor John Harkins had proposed the sale of the plant, but it was held up by five petitioners with the group WPCA Stratford-Get Answers. Knickerbocker Wins Another Term As First Selectman In Bethel BETHEL, Conn. -- Bethel First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker won re-election to a fourth term Tuesday with a convincing win over Republican challenger Will Duff.  Richard Straiton, Knickerbocker's Democratic running mate, was also elected to a fourth term. Republican Paul Szatkowski was elected as the other member on the town's Board of Selectman. Ossining, Briarcliff Runners Finish New York City Marathon OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining's Jaydip Patel and Briarcliff's Chandresh Shan finished Sunday's TCS New York City Marathon. Patel ran 4:30:55 and Shan ran 4:30:59. Patel, 47, finished his second NYC Marathon and improved his time by nearly 40 minutes. Both runners were also featured on an NBC-TV video clip of the race.
