Nuclear Power Station At Indian Point In Buchanan Shuts Down BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- Unit 2 at the Indian Point nuclear power station in Buchanan automatically and safely shut down Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. The automatic shutdown occurred at the same time technicians were testing electrical systems that are designed to automatically shut down the reactor if needed. The exact cause is under investigation. There was no release of radioactivity and no effect on public or worker health or safety. Nyack Seeks Tenant For Popular Waterfront Restaurant NYACK, N.Y. -- Nyack is accepting proposals to find a new tenant for The River Club, a waterfront restaurant which closed in October, according to LoHud.com.The bid for proposals will run through Aug. 12. The restaurant had been open for 30 years, and was the site of numerous weddings, receptions, parties and other community events. The building is on a dead end street and near a local marina. Spring Valley Board Comes Through With Funds To Save Summer Camps SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. -- Spring Valley parents learned late last week their children will be able to attend local summer camps. The Spring Valley board of trustees authorized spending $160,000 on a pair of programs that will serve about 130 children, according to LoHud.com.  The money will be divided between the Martin Luther King Multipurpose Center and a program at Camp Scuffy in Ramapo. Yorktown Man Charged With Violating Order Of Protection YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- A Yorktown man was charged with violating a protective order after an incident Tuesday night. Jack H. Kahan, 69, was charged with a criminal contempt misdemeanor after the domestic incident at 8:10 p.m. Police said Kahan pushed a woman to the ground, violating a temporary protection order issued by Westchester County Family Court. Judge Gary Rainolo set bond at $50,000. Kahan was unable to post bond and was remanded to Westchester County jail. He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on July 7.

Pelham Rower At Virginia Named ACC Scholar Athlete Of The Year PELHAM, N.Y. -- Tessa Dikkers of Pelham, a recent graduate of the University of Virginia, was named last week the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Dikkers was joined on the All-ACC Academic Rowing Team by six other UVA rowers.
