Offices Proposed For Mount Vernon Chemical Fire Site MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A four-story office building has been proposed to be built on the site of a Mount Vernon parcel where a chemical fire destroyed a large warehouse.Albert Zihenti of Hudson Greenwich LLC in New York City, who owns the property at 545 South Fulton Ave., is proposing the building, according to LoHud.com. In 2008, a fire destroyed KEM Chemical and forced an evacuation of the neighborhood. The Mount Vernon zoning board will review the proposal this week. Teaneck, Closter Temples Hold Service On Palisades Lookout BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. -- Temple Emeth of Teaneck and Temple Beth El of Northern Valley in Closter will hold "Prayers on the Palisades," Friday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m. The community is invited to this annual summer service at the State Line Lookout in Alpine. Participants are invited to hike beforehand and are advised to bring a folding chair and bug spray to the lookout. A festive Shabbat dinner will follow the service at Fink's in Dumont. Water Fountains Are Lead Free In North Rockland Schools NORTH ROCKLAND, N.Y. -- Drinking fountains came clean of elevated levels of lead at North Rockland schools, according to a report on lohud.com.School officials did shut off 22 sinks after testing found lead levels above safe water standards set by the Environmental Protection Agency. Clarkstown Police Respond to 669 Calls CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Clarkstown Police responded to 669 calls between July 11 and July 18, including 132 medical emergencies. Police also responded to 40 vehicle and traffic accidents, 26 fraud and theft reports, 15 domestic incidents and nine reports of arson, vandalism or criminal mischief. The other responses by Clarkstown police involved alcohol/drug/narcotics investigations (5); assaults (4); burglaries and robberies (1); emotionally disturbed people (12); and weapons violations (1). There were 424 other calls.

Armonk Developer Storms Out Of Housing-Plan Meeting ARMONK, N.Y. -- An Armonk developer stormed out of a discussion on a proposed affordable housing plan during a contentious meeting with members of the North Castle Planning Board, according to The Examiner.Michael Fareri presented a plan to build 48 affordable housing units at a former lumberyard on Bedford Road, the story said. The board felt Fareri's plan lacked sufficient information.  Fareri's plan includes 24 two-bedroom apartments, 20 one-bedroom units and four studio units.
