An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Maui Wildfires: Union County Woman Rallies Around Friend Loraine Anderson had to watch as wildfires tore through Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. The Berkeley Heights resident has created a fundraiser to assist one of her closest friends, Mokihana Gushi, who lives in Lahaina. As of Wednesday, August 16, more than $12,100 has been raised. Maui Wildfires: Bloomfield Man Helps Friends In Hawaii Joseph Franco's friends and BJJ teammates have seen the devastation of the Maui wildfires firsthand. Now Franco, a Bloomfield resident is doing what he can to help. A fundraiser has been created to assist Joe and Yehia Refando, Maui residents, who lost their home and all their possessions in the wildfire. Four Jersey City Juveniles Arrested For Overnight Car Burglaries: Linden PD Four Jersey City juveniles were arrested and charged with breaking into vehicles on the early morning of Saturday, August 12, authorities said. Officers first received a report of a burglary at 3:30 a.m. when a resident reported someone attempting to enter her vehicle, Captain Christopher Guenther said. The suspects were located using unmanned aircraft systems near Gesner and Laurita Street and police were dispatched to investigate, Guenther said. Traffic Enforcement Officer Suffers Fractured Hip In Jersey City Crash With SUV: Authorities A Jersey City traffic enforcement officer suffered a fractured hip when the scooter she was riding was struck by an SUV on Tuesday, Aug. 15, authorities said. The officer was traveling west on Lexington Avenue crossing the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard when she was hit by the SUV heading south, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. Teen Sexually Assaulted Rahway Woman: Authorities Elijah Finis, an 18-year-old Woodbridge teenager was charged Tuesday, August 15 with sexually assaulting a Rahway woman on Thursday, August 10, authorities said. At 11 a.m., Rahway police responded to the 2000 block of Elizabeth Avenue and met with a woman who said she had been sexually assaulted by Finis, who entered her residence unlawfully, Union County Prosecutor William A. The convenience store celebrated the opening of its new 5,868 square-foot store at 235 Route 10 East in East Hanover on Tuesday, Aug. 15. As part of the grand opening celebration, QuickChek is giving away one free cup of coffee per customer, per day, for 7 days to QuickChek Rewards members at the East Hanover store. Four Firefighters Injured After Blaze Damages Historic Church Grace Presbyterian Church, a 99-year-old Montclair institution, suffered extensive damage after a three-alarm fire tore the building on Tuesday morning, August 15. Montclair firefighters rushed to Grove Street and Tuxedo Road at 8 a.m. and found the fire reaching from the basement to the roofline at the back of the church, Deputy Chief Robert Duncan said. 27 NJ Boston Market Stores Issued Stop-Work Orders By Labor Department Boston Market stores across New Jersey owe its workers thousands of dollars in back wages, and the state's labor department is taking action. The NJDOL issued 27 stop-work orders to Boston Market locations throughout the state on Monday, Aug. 14 saying the rotisserie chicken franchise owes more than $600,000 in back wages to 314 employees. Maui Wildfire: Essex County Native Helping Family Impacted Nicole Conway's niece and her family were one of the many people impacted by the wildfires in Maui, Hawaii. Conway, a Belleville resident, has created a fundraiser to assist her niece and several other family members who reside on the island. As of Tuesday, August 15, $525 has been raised. Conway said her entire family is safe but they lost their home and belongings and currently staying with someone else. "They currently don't have much cell service and need everything to restart their lives," Conway said.
