Man Gets 10 Years For Fatal Jersey City Crash: Prosecutors Jose Colon, a 33-year-old Jersey City man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for driving drunk in a crash that killed one person, authorities said. On Feb. 28, 2001, Colon was driving a 1996 Honda Civic at a high rate of speed on Christopher Columbus Drive near Merseles Street in Jersey City when he struck a guard rail, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. His passenger, 30-year-old Jesus Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene, Suarez said. Colon had pleaded guilty to first-degree death by auto for driving while intoxicated in April, Suarez said.

Vincent Palacios had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the death of Michelle Castillo, a 24-year-old Weehawken resident, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Jersey City Bicyclist, 34, Dies In Route 78 Crash A 34-year-old Jersey City cyclist was killed after he was struck by a vehicle on Route 78 West in Union County on the morning of Monday, Sept. 11, authorities said. Irving Batista was riding his Zugo e-bike when it was struck by a Ford pickup truck at 6:09 a.m. in Union Township, Detective Jeffrey LeBron said.  After being struck by the Ford, the e-bike overturned and was struck by a Madza, Lebron said. Batista sustained fatal injuries, Lebron said. Authorities are still investigating the crash, Lebron said.
