An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. Former Roseland Police Chief Dies At 91: 'Loss Will Be Felt Throughout Community' Walter Critchett, who served the Roseland community as a police officer and later police chief for 40 years, died at the age of 91, the borough announced. After serving in the Navy, Critchett joined the Roseland Police Department in 1956. Matricide: NJ Woman Fatally Stabbed Mother, Jury Finds A 26-year-old New Jersey woman was found guilty of fatally stabbing her mother on Friday, Nov. 3, authorities said. Malika Jones, of Rahway, was convicted of aggravated manslaughter for the incident, which occurred in February 2020, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Rahway Police Director Nicholas Breiner said. At 3 p.m. on February 16, the Rahway Police Department responded to 100 East Albert Street and found Inell Jones, 58, fatally stabbed at the scene, authorities said. Cyclist Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Jersey City: Authorities A cyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle in Jersey City on the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 4, authorities said. At 4 p.m., Jersey City police responded to Marin Boulevard and 16th Street where a 2018 Hyundai Elantra collided with the bicyclist, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office, said. West New York Driver Hit Cyclist, Fled Scene: Prosecutors A 37-year-old West New York Man was charged on Friday, Nov. 3 with striking a cyclist and then leaving the scene last year, authorities said. On Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 12:20 p.m., Jason Flores was driving an Acura MDX when he hit a bicyclist, a 33-year-old North Bergen woman, riding an electric bike at 50th Street and Bergenline Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Jersey City Teen Busted For 10 Vehicle Break-Ins: Secaucus Police A 16-year-old Jersey City teenage boy was arrested and charged with breaking into 10 vehicles in Secaucus on Friday, Nov. 3, authorities said. The break-ins occurred throughout Secaucus and all the vehicles were unlocked, police said. He was charged with numerous counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit theft, burglary and theft, police said. He was issued a juvenile complaint summons and released into custody of an adult, police said.

Elizabeth Gunman Captured By US Marshals Headed To State Slammer For Fatal Shooting An Elizabeth resident has been sentenced to 60 years in state prison for a 2021 fatal shooting, authorities said Friday, Nov. 3. Michael Rogers, 25, was captured by US Marshals following the shooting death of 32-year-old Antwoine Thompson.
