Driver Injured After Car Crashes Into Tree, Bursts Into Flames On Route 80: Njsp A driver was injured on Route 80 in Morris County after they crashed into a tree on the evening of Thursday, Feb. 22, authorities said. At 9:35 p.m., a driver lost control of his Chevy SUV while traveling on Route 80 westbound in Roxbury Township, Troy McNair of the New Jersey State Police said. The car ran off the roadway and collided with a tree, McNair said. As a result of the crash, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames, McNair said. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to an area hospital, McNair said. The crash remains under investigation, McNair said.

Newark Man Convicted Of Killing His Cousin: Prosecutor A 30-year-old Newark man faces up to 20 years in prison after was found guilty on Thursday, Feb. 22 of fatally shooting his cousin in 2018, authorities said. In Sept. 2018, Assalaam Garnes shot Shakill Springer, a 24-year-old Newark resident outside his home following a verbal argument, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II  said. Garnes was later arrested with the weapon a few weeks later, Stephens said. Garnes was convicted of manslaughter and multiple weapons charges, Stephens said. Garnes will be sentenced in April, Stephens said.

Vehicle Stolen, Cars Broken Into Overnight In Phillipsburg: Police Police are investigating after a rash of vehicle crimes in Phillipsburg overnight on Thursday, Feb. 22.  Between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., a car was stolen on the 300 block of Thomas Street, Phillipsburg police said on Facebook. Two vehicle thefts occurred on the 300 block of Warren Street and the 100 block of Broad Street, respectively, police said.
