Native American Mascot Ban Prompts Change, Anger Among Long Island Schools For at least ten Long Island school districts, a big change is underway. The New York State Board of Regents voted on Tuesday, April 18 to ban the use of Native American names, mascots, or logos by public schools across the state of New York. Early-Morning Break-In: Long Island Police Search For Trio Police are on the lookout for a trio of suspects who attempted to break into a local woman’s home. The victim is a 28-year-old woman who lives on Birchwood Park Drive in Jericho. She was awoken by her home alarm system at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, according to Nassau County Police. Road-Rage Murder Update: Long Island Man Identified As Victim The man brutally killed by beating after a road rage incident on Saturday, April 15 has been identified as David McKenzie, age 54, of Baldwin, police said. McKenzie was pronounced dead after 26-year-old Patrick Destine allegedly beat him to death. The incident occurred when Destine and McKenzie's cars collided. Both got out and began to argue verbally, authorities claim, but Destine began to kick McKenzie in the head violently. Do You Know Him? Long Island Hospital Searches For Clues To Identify “Unknown Male” Staff members of a Long Island hospital have taken to social media to identify a patient who cannot do so himself. The man has been at the Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue since Wednesday, April 12, according to a Facebook post shared by the page IAC NY. Woman Struck, Killed In Early-Morning Long Island Crash: Police A 73-year-old Long Island resident was killed after being hit by a car while walking through a parking lot, police said. The driver, Alyssa Grudzinski, age 30, of Patchogue, was driving her SUV through the parking lot of Heatherwood House at Patchogue (located at 99 Waverly Avenue) on the morning of Tuesday, April 18, according to Suffolk County Police.
