44-Year-Old Killed In Sunken Meadow State Parkway Crash On Long Island Police have identified a man who they say was killed in a crash on the Sunken Meadow State Parkway. The crash happened on the night of Tuesday, Aug. 1 at approximately 11:30 p.m., according to the New York State Police. Jaron Lowndes, a 44-year-old Amityville resident, was riding his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle on the parkway, traveling southbound. He came upon two cars stuck in the right lane – one was a broken-down Toyota Rav4, and the other was a Ford EcoSport stopped behind it. Robbery: Trio Beats Woman With Bats, Make Off With Money On Long Island A woman was injured after three men beat her with baseball bats, stole her money, and ran in an early-morning Long Island robbery, police said. It happened on Tuesday, Aug. 1 in Mineola, according to Nassau County Police. Swastikas Found At Playgrounds Across Long Island Police on Long Island are searching for the people responsible for leaving antisemitic graffiti on playground equipment at a park and an elementary school. The first incident occurred on the night of Sunday, July 23 at Andrew J. Parise Park in Cedarhurst, according to the Rockaway Nassau Safety Patrol (RNSP). Wantagh State Parkway Ramp Closures Scheduled On Long Island New closures have been scheduled for a ramp on the Wantagh State Parkway, according to transportation officials. The closures are planned to facilitate highway maintenance. From Tuesday, Aug. 1 to Thursday, Aug. 3, the ramp from the northbound Wantagh State Parkway to the westbound Northern State Parkway will be closed, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. Toddler Dies, Forgotten In Hot Car For 8 Hours On Long Island A 14-month-old died after being left unattended much of the day in a car while her grandmother went to work on Long Island, police said.
