Two Wilton High School Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists WILTON, CONN. -- Two Wilton High School seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program, school officials announced recently. Rachel S. Pak and Derek A. Thomas took the fall 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. More than 1.5 million students took the exam and 16,000 were named semifinalists, a pool which represents less than one percent of high school seniors. Pak and Thomas now have the chance to compete for Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring, school officials said.

Westchester Business Owner Sentenced In $3.7 Million Payroll Tax Fraud WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A Yonkers businessman was sentenced Wednesday to six months behind bars for his role in a $3.7 million payroll tax fraud, according to Preet Bharara, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. Bharara said that Patrick White, who operates R & L Construction Inc., a Yonkers-based firm, was also sentenced in U.S. District Court in White Plains, to one year of home confinement.
