Esther Edwards, 96, Of Stamford, Retired Seamstress
STAMFORD, Conn. -- Esther “Ethel” Ruth Edwards, a retired seamstress, of Stamford, died Saturday, Sept. 18 at Stamford Hospital. She was 96.
Edwards was born Feb. 13, 1919, in Santiago, Cuba, to Peter and Florence Jeffers.
She is survived by her children, Valerie, Joy, and Ricky (Jackie); grandchildren, Tenisha, Anthony, and Kelsey; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services and visitation are at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1231 Washington Blvd., Stamford.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.

Ann Marie Shushelnycky, 51, Former Nurse, Longtime Bridgeport Resident
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Ann Marie Shushelnycky, a former Bridgeport resident, died Monday, Sept. 21, in Waterbury after a long illness. She was 51.
A resident of the Village Green Nursing Home in Waterbury, Shushelnycky was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, and Sacred Heart University. She worked for many years as a nurse at Bridgeport Hospital.
A past member and secretary of the Ukrainian-American Club, Shushelnycky was also a past member of the Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church Women's Guild. She often donated her …
State Grant Expands Reach Of Norwalk's Person-To-Person Agency
NORWALK, Conn. -- Person-to-Person, a nonprofit community organization in Norwalk, itself got a helping hand from the state recently, according to state Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff.
Duff, a Democrat from Norwalk and Darien, and state Sen. Carlo Leone, a Democrat from Stamford, joined P2P volunteers, staff and clients recently to celebrate a major grant they, and state Rep. Christopher R. Perone of Norwalk, helped secure.
P2P was given a $250,000 grant, to be split over two years, which will help it expand services to families in southwestern Connecticut who are struggling financially. …
St. Luke's Harvest Fest, Tag Sale Offers Food, Fun In Somers
SOMERS, N.Y. -- St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will host a harvest festival and tag sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Bailey Park in Somers.
The church and park are at the intersection of routes 100 and 202.
The festival will feature vendors, crafts, children’s games, church open house, a choir “singalong,” 50/50 raffle, auction prizes, and food.

StacyKnows: Financial Woes Force Pets Alive To Shut Elmsford Shelter
ELMSFORD, N.Y. -- Financial woes and other issues finally have forced Pets Alive Westchester, a “no-kill” animal shelter in Elmsford, to close for good, according to a report on StacyKnows, a lifestyle blogazine.
Pets Alive had operated for five years in a 40,000-square-foot space on Warehouse Lane, the report said.
Structural problems with the building, coupled with declining revenue and increased operating costs, finally did the sanctuary in, said the report by Stacy Geisinger, a Daily Voice community advisor.
