Norwalk Runner Advances To National Cross Country Championships FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Runners from Norwalk, Westport and Ridgefield finished in the top 10 Saturday at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships and have qualified to run in the national finals on Dec. 12. Staples senior Hannah DeBalsi, Brien McMahon senior Eric van der Els and Ridgefield’s Gabe Altopp qualified in the regional, which was held at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. DeBalsi, who is headed to Stanford University, qualified for the nationals for the third straight year with a fourth-place finish. She ran 17:43.7, a little more than eight seconds behind winner …

Somers Teen Closes In On $10K To Raise Awareness About Arthritis SOMERS, N.Y. -- Jared Heller of Somers has fought arthritis since he was a toddler. Now, the 14-year-old Somers High School freshman is closing in on his goal of $10,000 to help raise awareness about arthritis. Heller is the youth honoree for the 2015 Westchester Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12, at Purchase College. Heller’s team, Jared’s Jinglers, has raised more than $9,000 for the cause. The team fundraising goal is $10,000. Record-Setting Duo Stars For Lourdes In First State Football Title Game POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Our Lady of Lourdes had not surrendered more than 27 points in any football game this year. Until Saturday, when South Park quarterback Tyree Brown scorched the Warriors for numerous big plays as he led his team to a 49-46 victory in the Public High School Athletic Association Class A championship game. Catherine Siciliano, 83, Lifelong Ossining Resident OSSINING, N.Y. -- Catherine L. Siciliano, a lifelong resident of Ossining, died on Sunday, Nov. 29. She was 83. Siciliano was born in Ossining on Dec. 7, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Michael and Viola (Gioio) Lobus. Siciliano was a former school secretary at both St. Augustine’s and St. Theresa’s Parochial Schools. She was also a former secretary at Sing Sing Prison and a member of St. Ann’s Church. Archbishop Stepinac Captures First Catholic State Football Title WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Archbishop Stepinac’s sports teams have won numerous championships over the years. The Crusaders, however, had never before won a Catholic High School Athletic Association football crown. Until Saturday. Senior quarterback Tyquell Fields threw for four touchdown passes and T.J. Morrison had nine receptions, four for scores, to lead the Crusaders to a 42-28 win over St. Francis of Buffalo in the CHSAA championship game.
