False Bomb Threat At Newark School: Police A false bomb threat was phoned into BRICK Avon Academy in Newark on Monday, Oct. 23, police said. Police responded to the school at 1 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police, along with the Essex County Sherriff's Office K-9 unit conducted a sweep of the building and determined the call was false, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.

Man Sitting In Roadway Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Elizabeth: Police A man sitting in the roadway was fatally struck by a vehicle in Elizabeth on Tuesday, Oct. 24 police said. In the middle of the night, police initially received a call about a man sitting in the roadway on Newark Avenue and then later received a call about the same person being struck, Ruby Contreras of the Elizabeth Police Department said. The man was pronounced dead at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Contreras said.

Secaucus Man Sexually Assaulted Teen Girl: Prosecutors A 30-year-old Secaucus man was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 2022 and 2023, authorities said. Anyelo Jimenez-Marte committed sex crimes on the girl, who was between 14 and 15 years old on various dates in a Secaucus apartment, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The girl was known to Jiminez-Marte, Suarez said. Jiminez-Marte was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Suarez said. He is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending an arraignment, Suarez said.

Abrupt Ending For Englewood Council Meeting As Protestors Rally Protesters descended on Englewood City Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 24, as both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli groups held up signs and led chants, causing a city council meeting to end abruptly. The protests come after the city passed a resolution on Tuesday, Oct. 10 expressing their support for Israel and condemning Hamas following the Saturday, Oct. 7 attacks on Israel. Seen HIM? Newark Police Looking For Car Burglar A car burglar is on the loose and Newark Police are hoping to catch him. On Tuesday, Oct. 10, police responded to the 100 block of South Munn Avenue after a man broke into an unlocked parked vehicle and took a wallet containing cash, credit cards and other valuables. An investigation uncovered surveillance footage, which police hope will help identify the suspect, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. Union County Skincare Specialist Performed Unlicensed Procedures: State AG A skincare specialist in Union City is paying a $22,500 fine for allegedly performing unlicensed procedures, Matthew Platkin, the state attorney general announced. Carolina Nunez, who owned and operated Carolina Nunez Skincare Salon, allegedly offered and performed numerous services that she was not licensed to do, including dermal filler injections, Botox injections, cosmetic tattooing, platelet rich plasma treatments and the using a hyaluronic pen, Platkin said. North Jersey Native Critically Injured Fighting Baltimore Fire Sees Community Support People are coming together to support Dillion Rinaldo, a lieutenant in the Baltimore City Fire Department and a Fair Lawn native, who was seriously injured battling a three-alarm blaze last week. A fundraiser has been launched for Rinaldo and his fiancée, Lauren. As of Tuesday, Oct. 24, more than $73,000 has been raised. Items Stolen As Hackensack Restaurant Closes After 30+ Years It was supposed to be a celebration. As The Crow's Nest closed its doors on Saturday, Oct. 21 having been a staple on Route 17 in Hackensack for more than 30 years, the restaurant owners, the Hajiyerou family, announced on Facebook that two possessions were stolen. Four Arrested After Two Stolen Vehicles Recovered: Linden PD Four people were arrested in Linden last week after police recovered two stolen vehicles, police said. On Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 8:40 p.m., officers were alerted to a stolen U-Haul van traveling southbound on Route 1. Police located the van at South Stiles Street and arrested Anthony Miguel, a 30-year-old Mount Holly resident and Marcello Miguel, a 21-year-old Mount Ephraim resident, officers said. NJ For-Profit School Deceived Students, Forced To Pay $4.6 Million: State AG A for-profit school in Middlesex County is being forced to pay a $4.6 million after the state said it deceived students and offered unlawful loans. Sollers Inc. which is based in Piscataway, used false and misleading job advertisements to funnel students into its programs and falsely claimed that agreements requiring students to pledge a portion of their future income in exchange for money upfront for their programs was not a loan, Attorney General Matthew Platkin said.
