An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. Shoplifter Left Behind, Accomplice Busted Months Later In Morris County: Cops A 23-year-old Queens man was arrested by Denville police on Tuesday, Nov. 28 after escaping officers back in September, authorities said. Elijah Cowan, 23 and Aziz James, a 24-year-old Queens resident, were among three people stealing from the local CVS on Sunday, Sept. 17, police in Denville said. Cowan and another man escaped in a Jeep Wrangler, officers said. Brooklyn Man Busted After Maplewood Car Thefts: Police A 29-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested in Maplewood on Sunday, Nov. 26 for stealing multiple vehicles, authorities said. Maplewood police initially responded to Springfield Avenue after a 2019 Subaru WRX was stolen, officers said. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys still inside, police said. Escaped Inmate: Essex County Prisoner Captured After 90 Minutes, Police Say An Essex County prisoner was captured after being on the lam for 90 minutes on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 29, authorities said. The Essex County Sheriff's Office declined to disclose the name, age and reason for the prisoner's initial arrest but said officers began a search at 7 p.m. before he was taken back into custody at 8:30 p.m.

The discount retailer chain was forced to pay a fine of $1.2 million after repeatedly engaging in merchandise pricing violations at several stores throughout New Jersey, Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Bergen County Man's Assault On Palestinian-American Wasn't Bias Crime: Cops A 31-year-old Bergen County man was arrested for assaulting a Palestinian American who said he was called a terrorist in Jersey City on Monday, Nov. 27, authorities said. At 1:30 a.m., Mo Hamzeh said on his Instagram that he was waiting on an Uber outside Grove Station when a man asked him where he was from. Jersey City 9-1-1 Dispatcher Used Job To Access Personal Info: Prosecutor A 58-year-old Jersey City 9-1-1 dispatcher was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and charged with unlawfully obtaining records and personal information, authorities said. In July, Rose Davis used her position as a telecommunications supervisor to access the information that she was not authorized to keep, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The arrest followed an investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Special Investigations Unit. Davis was charged with computer criminal activity and was released pending her first court appearance next month, Suarez said.
