Dorothy H. Picken, Former Science Teacher In Yonkers, 69 YONKERS, N.Y. -- Dorothy H. Picken, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, died on Sunday, Aug. 30, of cancer. She was 69. She was a school teacher for many years and retired as the head of the science department at Roosevelt High School in Yonkers. Picken is survived by her sister Betty (Paul) Neglia and Susan (Gordon) Hunger. . Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association. Funeral service will take place at F. Ruggiero & Sons, Inc., 732 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, on Thursday at noon, with the interment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Hastings' Frances Schweiger Prepares For 100th Birthday HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Frances Schweiger will be celebrating her 100th birthday on Sept. 14. Born in 1915 as Frances Fero, she was raised in Brooklyn with her three sisters by her parents, Morris and Elizabeth Fero. Schweiger attended and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn. At the age of 15, she met Ralph Schweiger on the tennis courts at Betsy Head Park in Brooklyn and was immediately struck by how good looking he was. Ten years later, they married on April 6, 1940. Norwalk's Liberation Programs Receives $5,000 From First County Bank NORWALK, Conn. – Liberation Programs recently received a $5,000 grant from First County Bank Foundation to support the agency’s Families in Recovery Program in Norwalk. Families in Recovery (FIRP) is a long-term in-patient residential addiction treatment program for pregnant or parenting women. The program also provides special services for children and is unique to Connecticut since it is the only program of its kind where mothers can bring two children up to the age of 10 into the program with them. New York Roads Rank Among Worst For Traffic In Nation WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Drivers throughout the nation are seeing more traffic on the roads, but New York traffic rates as the third worst in the coutnry, according to NBC News. Studies show drivers are now spending approximately 42 hours stuck in traffic every year.
