Check Out The Heavens At Free Planetarium Shows At Danbury's WestConn DANBURY, Conn. — Western Connecticut State University in Danbury is offering free public sky viewings and planetarium shows at the Planetarium and Observatory on the West Side campus. At the sky viewing on Saturday, March 28, Jupiter will be visible and the moon will be near first quarter. Jupiter will return April 11 with spring sky objects, and the first quarter moon will appear April 25. The series concludes May 9 with spring sky objects. Pound Ridge Resident Empowers Nepalese Women POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Peace Corps volunteer and Pound Ridge native Benjamin Wagner empowered women in Nepal by establishing a mushroom collective. Female subsistence farmers will earn money for their families and add nutrients to their diets through the collective. “In practice, food security involves agriculture, nutrition, income generation and more — it’s so all-encompassing that it seems, at times, overwhelming, but it can really be empowering,” said Wagner, a Middlebury College graduate. Port Chester Young Scientists Display Projects At Middle School PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Approximately 380 seventh-graders displayed their science projects for Port Chester Middle School's Annual Young Scientist Day. For their projects, students asked questions such as "Which eyeliner brand is most waterproof?" and "Which rots faster: McDonald's meat or store bought meat?" then researched their inquiries with a formal experiment. The results and conclusions were on display on March 19 in the school gymnasium for the seventh-graders as well as the sixth-grade classes

Maryknoll Sisters Documentary To Screen in Ossining OSSINING, N.Y. -- "Trailblazers in Habits," a documentary on the Maryknoll Sisters, will be screened at Maryknoll Society Mission Center on Friday. The Maryknoll Sisters are the first U.S.-based congregation of Catholic women dedicated to foreign mission, and the film documents their work in health care, education and social justice. "Trailblazers in Habits" will screen for free at 7 p.m. in the Asia Room of Maryknoll Society Mission Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served.
