New Canaan Police Reward Safe Drivers, Pedestrians
NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- Just in time for the holidays, the New Canaan Police Department has launched Operation Do the Right Thing.
Officers will be looking for naughty and nice motorists as well as pedestrians.
Nice and safe drivers, for example, obey traffic laws, don’t speed, stop at crosswalks, aren’t distracted and wear seatbelts, police said. Good pedestrians use crosswalks. Officers are rewarding them with gift cards from several participating businesses.

North Salem Man Charged With DWI In Putnam
PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A North Salem man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation in the Town of Southeast, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Sheriff Kevin Radovich stopped the man for a traffic violation on Route 6 in Southeast on Saturday, according to the sheriff.
The deputy arrested the driver, Gary R. Malman, 51, of 993 Peach Lake Road in North Salem, and charged him with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after field sobriety tests.
