Ticks Carrying Rare, Life-Threatening Virus Found In Fairfield County BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The spread of the Powassan virus, a tick-borne disease that can be life-threatening, is being studied by scientists in Connecticut, according to nhregister.com. The virus has been found in ticks in two locations in the state, so professionals at the Center for Vector Biology & Zoonotic Diseases are doing everything they can to capture the ticks and focus on places where ticks carrying this potentially deadly virus have been spotted. Arts Therapy, Music Planned At Tuckahoe Senior Center TUCKAHOE, N.Y. -- The Tuckahoe Senior Center has announced several events for seniors in April, including music, a World War I discussion and more. HeartSong, a creative arts therapy program, comes to the center Tuesday for an interactive singalong. The center is traveling to Westchester Broadway Theatre Thursday to see “Westside Story,” one of the most beloved musicals ever. Briarcliff High Science Research Students Win Awards BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Briarcliff High School science research students earned several awards at a regional competition. The students' hard work paid off during the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair on March 7. “These were our best results at this competition in several years,” said teacher Michael Inglis. Briarcliff Students Raise Funds To Fight Leukemia, Lymphoma BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Briarcliff Middle School's student government held a bagel breakfast fundraiser and donated the proceeds to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. “Members met to set up and welcome middle school students with fresh bagels for a good cause,” said student government adviser Laura Gualtiere. “They donated the proceeds to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of the Hudson Valley.” Students discussed which charities they wanted to raise funds for this school year and chose the LLS as one of the desired recipients. The bagel sale resulted in a $165 donation to the LLS.
