Columbus Elementary School Band Places Second At Battle In The Apple MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Students at Columbus Elementary School placed second in the 2015 Battle in the Apple band competition held at Baruch College on Saturday, April 11. "I was truly impressed to watch our students hold their own against some fierce competitors," said Columbus principal Colleen Seivright-Crawford. New Rochelle Combines Earth Day, Arbor Day With Tree Planting NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The City of New Rochelle celebrated Arbor Day on Earth Day, April 22, with a tree planting at Huguenot Park. Mayor Noam Bramson and city officials were joined by Bartlett Tree Company, The Care of Trees, and students from New Rochelle High School's AP Environmental Studies classes, taught by Carmen Glenn and Julia Chillemi. Bartlett Tree Company gave away free saplings and The Care of Trees gave demonstration on tree trimming and their bucket trucks and equipment.

New Rochelle Bar Association Honors Chief Judge Of State's Top Court NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The New Rochelle Bar Association hosted its Eighth Annual Court of Appeals Dinner at the Grand Ballroom of the Radisson Hotel in New Rochelle. The honored guest was Jonathan Lippman, chief judge of the New York State Court of Appeals, who will be retiring on Dec. 31, because he will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 in May. Briarcliff MS Students Make French Crêpes BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Students at Briarcliff Middle School made and enjoyed French crêpes, a popular dessert and street food in Paris, during a recent French lesson. “It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be,” said student Josie. “I used chocolate sauce, powdered sugar and banana on my crêpe.
