Federal officials are detailing a New York woman's alleged plan to bomb the State Capitol, kill senators, and flee to ISIS-controlled territory in Syria.
Jessica Bowie, 35, of Albany, made her initial appearance in federal court on a charge of attempting to provide material support to ISIS, the US Department of Justice said (see criminal complaint attached at the bottom of this news story).

A New York man admitted to stabbing his girlfriend to death then fleeing last year, leading to a multicounty manhunt across the Adirondack Mountains, authorities said.
Anthony Bechand, 54, of Cohoes, copped to second-degree murder in the killing of 41-year-old Amanda Rodriguez on Sept. 13, 2025, the Albany County District Attorney’s office said.
Bechand faces 20 years to life behind bars as part of his plea deal, prosecutors said. His sentencing hearing was set for Oct. 30.

A Long Island man with a lengthy criminal history was convicted of selling cocaine to an undercover cop three times, authorities said Thursday, Aug. 20.
Ishmel Owens, 34, of Freeport, faces up to 45 years in prison because of his previous record, the Suffolk County District attorney’s office said.
Cops began investigating Owens in April 2025 and set up an undercover operation, in which he sold a total of 0.315 grams of cocaine to an officer at three separate meetups on April 24, April 30, and May 30 of that year, prosecutors said.

A Long Island man who admitted to stabbing and strangling his wife in their bed was sentenced to prison time on Thursday, Aug. 20, authorities said.
Rodolfo Alvarez, 35, of Central Islip, got 18 years for attempted murder and several other crimes, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
The victim “survived that brutal attack and will no longer have to worry about her safety while this defendant serves many years in prison,” District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

A serial fraudster on Long Island is facing more charges for renting out a home she didn’t own, police said Thursday, Aug. 20.
Aurelia Soogea, 39, of West Hempstead, was arrested again Wednesday, Aug. 19 and hit with more charges in her fraud scheme across Nassau County, the county police department said.
In the latest case, investigators said Soogea rented a home on Meadowbrook Road to a 49-year-old woman on Friday, July 17, according to police. She collected $7,000 for rent and a security deposit that day, authorities said.

Matthew Adcock, 54, of Huntington, was driving a 2016 Ford Edge northbound on Dix Hills Road just south of Hren Court around 11:25 p.m., the Suffolk County Police Department said.
Adcock’s vehicle left the road, crashed into a fence, and hit a hedge before coming to a stop, police said. Investigators believe Adcock suffered a medical episode, triggering the wreck, authorities said.

David Anthony De Jesus, of Roslyn, was traveling westbound near Dosoris Way and Elliot Place in Glen Cove around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, the Nassau County Police Department said.
