A blood-covered axe and battery-operated pole saw were found near 61-year-old Gregory Meyer’s body at the Old Denville Road home he shared with his 33-year-old son, Kyle, around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24, according to an affidavit for probable cause obtained by Daily Voice. The 1.5-year-old Shorthaired Pointer who joined the ranks of the Amherst County Sheriff in October was hailed a hero on Christmas after tracking down a missing child. K-9 Maxa and Sgt. Shores responded to a home in Madison Heights for a missing child, after family members had checked he surrounding area with no success. Once on scene, K-9 Maxa was able to find and track the scent of the juvenile and led deputies to a nearby wooded area where Maxa found the missing child unharmed. Good girl!

The man was directing the vehicle to back up closer to the pumps in the gas station lot near The Alameda around 4:20 a.m., when he was struck by the 31-year-old driver, police said. The Exxon station is located at Walters Avenue and The Alameda, where police say the crash occurred.
