Charges have been filed against a 41-year-old man who police say was going 90 mph before a crash that killed an 18-year-old pre-med student in Morris County, officials announced. Gerald Veneziano, of Bellville, had numerous open alcohol containers in the vicinity of his Chevrolet Silverado following the accident that killed 18-year-old Jacob Davis in Flanders Friday, May 31, Morris County Acting Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood said. The body of a 79-year-old man who disappeared in Lake Hopatcong was recovered Monday morning, June 24, authorities said. A 29-year-old assault suspect is facing charges in Lyndhurst after leading officers on a foot pursuit then becoming combative during the arrest, police said. Lyndhurst Lt. Two major crashes closed two major highways early Monday, June 24 in Passaic County. The first crash happened when a motorcycle and commercial truck collided just before 5 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Route 46, Clifton police said. The motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries. All lanes were closed between Hazel Street and Paulson Avenue as of 9:40 a.m. Meanwhile, an overturned tractor trailer closed Route 80 in Paterson the eastbound ramp to Exit 58 just after 6:25 a.m., the NJDOT site says. All lanes were closed as of 7:40 a.m.

A newly-hired volunteer ambulance driver and landscaper from Passaic County is facing child porn charges out of Illinois involving two 13-year-old children, authorities said. Victor E. Meza Valdez, 26, of Ringwood, was arrested on June 20, by detectives with the Passaic County Sheriff's Office on a warrant out of McHenry County, IL, Acting Passaic County Sheriff Gary Gairdina said.
